Performing arts, visual arts, cinema, music

The Imec collections include a large number of artists’ papers. Although they are made of particularly varied materials, these collections remain closely related to the physical page and to the question of writing.

Ranging from Antoine Vitez to Patrice Chéreau, and from Jerzy Grotowski to Alfredo Arias, directors are represented alongside their favorite authors, such as Bernard-Marie Koltès, Jean-Luc Lagarce, Copi, René Kalisky, Michel Vinaver… Music and musicology form another important cluster, with the collections of the Erik Satie Foundation, the papers of Jean-Louis Florentz, Brigitte and Jean Massin, and Pierre Schaeffer. The Imec also holds the archives of film directors and other figures of the film industry, such as the Dardenne brothers, Éric Rohmer, Alain Resnais, Raoul Ruiz, Marianne Oswald, Jérôme Clément, Maria Casarès, Luc Moullet, Jérôme Prieur... In the field of visual arts, creation is often amplified by a scriptural activity, as shown by the examples of Jean Hélion, Jean-Luc Parant, André Mare, Fred Deux or Pol Bury.

Paintings, engravings, drawings, photographs... These exceptional collections are brimming with bibliophile treasures and unpublished texts. Considered in a dynamic approach of archival materials, they can be contextualized in the global network of the collections, in relation to art history, criticisms, galleries and contemporary art magazines.
